Abstraksi:There is a body of research explodng interpersonal ftinctioning abnormalities associated with schizophrenic illness, which has grown substantially, but still leaves many questions unanswered. The past few decades have seen clinical research increase attention on the effects that social functioning abnormalities, in and of themselves, have on the individual with schizophrenia, and to the value of social adjustment assessments in predicting outcomes. This study aimed to examine the important relationships between social adjustment, satisfaction, and community tenure with individuals having schizophrenic illnesses. Self-report satisfaction ratings were correlated with days hospitalized, and social adjustment scores were compared with satisfaction ratings and with days hospitalized for 31 males and females having schizophrenic illnesses. Social Adjustment Scale II (SAS II) specific scores correlated significantly with Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) ratings and with Satisfaction with Social Functioning (SSQ). Satisfaction ratings did not correlate significantly with days hospitalized. Results suggest that satisfaction ratings are associated with certain behavioral indicators of social adjustment but not with the interviewer-inferred appearance of adjustment or with cumulative hospitalization time.
