Abstraksi:Abstract Interest in evaluating health-related quality of life has increased in recent years and many methods of assessment are readily available for clinical use. Because quality of life is dependent on an individual's phenomenological interpretation of his or her health status, interpretation of patient self-report data must be qualified within the context of cultural norms (Heppner, 2008). One way of understanding such data is from a cross-cultural perspective that can be examined by using differential item functioning, individual Psychology can be applied to help conceptualize the meaning of any observed health disparities within a biopsychosocial, or holistic, approach. In this study, the authors examined group differences between African American participants and White participants with chronic illness using patient self-reported quality-of-life data.
