Abstraksi:More demands are made on mathematics teachers than ever before. With mandated testing, public school students are to measure up to certain standards to be promoted to the next grade level in grades three through eight, as well as pass an exit test in high school to receive a diploma. Passing results on tests are required in mathematics, reading, and science. Mathematics has had a long history of being known as one of the basics in the curriculum. Mathematics teachers need to prepare daily lessons involving the best objectives, learning activities, and assessment approaches. How might the mathematics teacher continue to achieve, develop, and grow in his/her professional activities? There are definite characteristics and traits of students which need attention in teaching and learning situations. These must be considered when teaching mathematics in the school setting in order to make provision for individual differences among students (Ediger, 2006).
