| Abstraksi | : | In this article, I argue that PTSD, more than any other disorder, represents the most extreme cases of loneliness because of its profound intensity, longevity of symptoms, and its personal sense of abandonment and betrayal issues. In incest situations, this is especially pronounced because of the intimacy of the relation leading to a complete collapse of trust, which is inseparable from loneliness. The essay points toward a solution of why PTSD is so paralyzing, so enervating; why although conceptually clear options are presented to the victim of what should be done, nevertheless, the sufferer is unable to act, to follow through on conceptual decisions. In the present case study, I propose that Sherry was unable to believe she could ever satisfy or fulfill the demands of her molester due to the totally unrealistic sexual expectations of her father which destroyed her ability to develop any confidence in the future working out. Forced to participate in frightening and compulsory practices, which were undoubtedly dictated by an agent who was perversely insatiable, it’s to be expected that the hapless victim will lose all hope in how to survive, let alone progress developmentally to a stage of positive intimacy. For Sherry, as she gains trust in others she will gain trust in herself and attain a deeper level of insight into the ultimate meaning of the incest and its unconscious consequences. |
