Abstraksi:The authors sought to identify lifestyle differences between outpatients who did not report a history of abuse (N = 35; 23 female, 12,male) and outpatients who did report a history of abuse (N = 43; 25 female, 18 male). They measured lifestyle using the BASIS-A Inventory {Curlette, Wheeler, & Kern, 1997), and they used a semistructured interview to determine a history of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse and social functioning. The group of outpatients who had reported abuse showed significantly higher Being Cautious, Liked by All, and Softness scores than the other group. Further, the outpatients who reported abuse had significantly lower Belonging/ Social Interest and Entitlement scores. These findings suggest that retrospective reports of abuse are associated with specific impairment in social adjustment and lifestyle themes.
