Abstraksi:Abstract Adoption of late-placed children is most successful when parents have reasonable expectations and are given support and encouragement, in this article, the author provides a framework for understanding and encouraging families with late-placed children based on the Individual Psychology of Alfred Adler. A review of the adoption research is integrated with a review of the Individual Psychology literature related to families. The parental characteristics that adoption researchers have identified as contributing to the success of special-needs adoption are consistent with those parental traits and behaviors promoted in the Individual Psychology literature.
