Abstraksi:The Conceptual Adaptation Method (CAM) was used to develop an Arabic adaptation of the State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI; Spielberger, Gorsuch, Lushene, Vagg, & Jacobs, 1983). Fifty Arabic items were developed in consultation with bilingual, American-trained subject matter and linguistic experts. A sample of Lebanese college students was randomly assigned to calibration and validation subsamples. The initial item pool was.administered to a calibration sample and item and factor analyses were conducted to determine the final item set which was administered to a validation sample. Internal consistency, item-total correlations, and factor analyses were conducted. The two-factor solution included Anxiety Present and Anxiety Absent subfactors for both S-Anxiety and T-anxiety. Three-factor solution yielded Anxiety Absent, Worry, and Emotionality factors. Implications for cross-cultural and linguistic adaptations using the Conceptual Adaptation Method (CAM) were discussed. This study represents the first step towards validating the Arabic STAI with Middle Eastern Samples.
