Abstraksi | : | Abstract The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of birth order on an individual's image of the divine, specifically, the degree to which people report perceiving a divine being. Cod, as powerful, loving, forgiving, trustworthy, understanding, fair, and available. Self-administered questionnaires were distributed to undergraduate students taking classes from various academic disciplines at a state university in Utah. Data from 227 White college students coming from intact families with two Mormon parents were analyzed. The results of a cross-tabulation analysis found that first-born participants consistently held the most favorable images of Cod among all birthorder ranks. After controlling for age, gender, and the religiosity and happiness of one's childhood family, results from a multivariate analysis showed that earlier-born participants held more favorable images of God than later-born participants, a difference that may be affected by their early childhood experiences within the family. |
