Abstraksi:Measurement for clinicians involved in the assessment and triage of individuals in a state of crisis is currently lacking. Authors report on the development of a scale designed to assess crisis acuity in a community setting: the Crisis Acuity Scale. Psychometric properties of this Scale are based upon ratings and recommendations fi-om 416 crisis episodes over a 16 month period of time. Both internal consistency and interrater reliability were clinically significant. Convergent, discriminant, and predictive validities of acuity ratings with final dispositions were significant. Principal components analysis (PCA) suggested a six factor structure comprised of cognitive impairment, suicide potential, depression, functional impairment, aggression, and resistance. Common variation of items with factors was generally as predicted. Further psychometric development of this scale is discussed with practical applications of such an instrument for profiling settings and documenting the assessment process.
