Abstraksi:Research has established that males typically have a more negative view toward foreign language as well as a lower aptitude toward foreign language than females. Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA) is a relatively unresearched area. We examined the correlation between FLA and gender. Participants were students at the University of North Dakota, The expedmental group was currently taking a foreign language course in French, German, or Spanish while the control had never taken a foreign language at the university level. Subjects were assessed for anxiety, depression, FLA and intelligence. A correlation was not found between FLA and gender due to a lack of males in the subject pool. However correlations were found between previous foreign language expedence and WAIS-R scores in the expedmental group. A correlation was found between FLA and depression in the control group. A correlation was also found between trait anxiety and depression in both the control and the expedmental group.
