Abstraksi | : | During his medical school years, Alfred Adler was associated with a group of socialist students which included his future wife, Raissa Timofeivna Epstein. The daughter of Moscow merchants and railroad tycoons, she was a feminist intellectual and social activist who migrated in 1897 (by way of Zurich) to attend university in Vienna. The article has two goals: to present the context in which Adler and Epstein met and to examine the impact of the intellectual traditions she brought with her on Adier's own thinking and practice. The author identifies several conceptual relations: One is the relationship between colonies and empires, and another is the emergence of social democracy in Vienna between 1918 and 1934. Understanding these relations may help readers emulate the attention given by Adler and his associates to the social problems that plagued the lives of their working class and unemployed clients. |
