Abstraksi:Abstract The purpose of this research study was to examine the effects of birth order, family size, and gender of siblings on hardiness, happiness, emotional intelligence, and generalized self-efficacy in adolescents (11 to 19 year olds) and young adults (20 to 29 years old). Participants included 200 adolescents and 200 young adults selected from Eghlid, Iran. A demographics questionnaire, Ahwaz Hardiness Inventory, Oxford Happiness Inventory, Trait Meta-Mood Scale, and Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale were used in the study. The resulting data showed that birth order effects were statistically significant on two constructs: problem-solving persistence and joy. Larger family size related to lower life satisfaction and attention to emotions. Using a multiple regression model, resulting analyses demonstrated a prediction of low attention to emotions, low life satisfaction, and low self-esteem for number of sisters, suggesting that having sisters may predict more negative outcomes than having brothers. Significant findings are explained within an Individual Psychology framework.
