Abstraksi | : | This paper is a report of the results from a qualitative case study with a traditional healer (sangoma) in South Africa. Among many South Africans the sangoma is ä vital, front line health provider (Leach, Akhurst, & Basson, 2003). Sangomas aré working with Western practitioners to integrate traditional healing practices into the patients' overall treatment. The present study was conducted through interviews over 2 years with a Sangoma who works in a rural AIDS hospice. Previous research has indicated that Individual Psychology is useful in South Africa (Brack, Hill, Edwards' Crootboom, & Lassiter, 2003; Chipfakacha, 1997; Mokgoro, 1998). The similarities between Adierian practices and the Sangoma's rituals are presented and implications for cross-cultural collaboration are discussed |
