Abstraksi:Some blast-exposed veteran patients with Persistent Post-Concussive Syndrome (PPCS) due to mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) fail to recover fully. We report on the assessment and treatment of one such veteran with symptoms characterized by episodic psycho-sensory, cognitive, and affective symptoms. Although he did not suffer from a conventional form of epilepsy, the patient’s spell-like symptoms and paroxysmal affects responded well to treatment with valproic acid. Findings from the present case suggest that there may well be a treatable sub-type of PPCS among blastexposed combat veterans. We proposed the phrase “multi-symptomatic, intermittent, neurobehavioral disorder” and the acronym “MIND” for this subtype.
